Includes premiere screening of Wings of Song documentary, interactive photography exhibition and opportunity to take part in a singing workshop.
Experience the cultural diversity of Trowbridge through song, stories, film and photography. A free event for all the family at the Springfield Community Campus, Corsham, Saturday 19 March 2pm to 4.30pm.
The event starts with a singing workshop, and anyone is welcome to take part, no previous musical or singing experience required. With expert guidance from local musician, therapist and piano teacher, Masha Kastner, participants will have the opportunity to learn new vocal techniques and harmonies. Masha, who was born in Russia and grew up in East Germany, draws on the diversity of contemporary society to inspire the choirs she leads. The choir workshop will complete with a short performance.
At 3pm there will be a premiere screening of Wings of Song. The 30-minute film, directed by Samiha Abdeldjebar of U-Bûr Pictures, documents the journey of the Song Project. Discover the moving story that inspired the project and follow its development over two years, toward the final concert at Wiltshire Music Centre. The documentary is enriched with the stories of ordinary people who have overcome extraordinary challenges before making a life for themselves in Wiltshire.
There will be an opportunity after the film for questions and discussion.
The Trowbridge Song Project was conceived by Candy Verney to build bridges between the diverse cultures in Trowbridge. The legacy of the project seeks new opportunities in Wiltshire to bring people from different cultures together by sharing song, stories and art.
The Song Project exhibition, produced by local photographer Penney Ellis, continues at the campus until Thursday 31 March. The interactive exhibition features portraits and audio extracts of stories and memories from ten people who now live in Trowbridge.
The Trowbridge Song Project was funded by Arts Council England with additional support and funding from Wiltshire Council, Wiltshire Music Centre, Seedbed Charity, Trowbridge Arts, Sounding it Out Choir, West Wiltshire Multi Faith Forum and other community groups, organisations and volunteers.
