Trowbridge Song Project – Singing in the Community

The Trowbridge Song Project (2012 -2017) was about bringing people together through singing. The Project aimed to give people living and working in and around Trowbridge to feel the benefit of singing together, no matter their age, background or ability. It was set up by Candy Verney (, a local choir leader with over 20 years experience.

Since the finale concert at the Wiltshire Music Centre in Nov 2015, the committee and founder Candy Verney have decided that the project has run its course and will end in January 2018. The committee feel that the events and workshops during 2015, 2016 and 2017 have created a healthy legacy of the project in numerous ways.

Here is a brief overview of what the TSP has achieved over the last two years:
The Mill Race Singers
The Mill Race Singers, a monthly singing group based at the Mill Race Activity Club in Calne for adults with learning disabilities. In June 2017 the group took part in the Avon and Wiltshire Heath Partnership ‘Celebration Day’ Festival in Bristol – a festival for adults with disabilities – which was a huge success. The group are already planning their performance for 2018. We have been successful in securing funding from Wiltshire Rural Music ( to ensure that this project continues in 2018. A short film has been made about the Mill Race Singers which will be available to watch online soon.

The project has put on open access workshops in Corsham, Trowbridge and Bath, all free and open to all. We reached around 150 people in this way.

The beautiful photographs by Penney Ellis were displayed at Springfield Campus in Corsham as well as in County Hall and Trowbridge Town Hall, alongside the documentaries made by Samiha Abdejabar (U-ber Films).

We thank you for your support throughout the project. If you have any memories or photos from the project that you’d like to share, please do so on our Facebook page, which will remain live for a while:

Keep on singing!
